Each year around Veterans Day, Woodcraft stores provide the space, tools and materials for woodturners of all skill levels to stop by and make a pen or two on the lathe. Since 2004, volunteers of all ages have crafted more than 236,000 wooden pens through the annual event, according to the company.
Pens are distributed free of charge to active-duty military troops, rehabilitating service members and veterans’ groups.
“Even after 20 years, we know this program is still meaningful for both the recipients and the turners. That little ‘thank you’ means so much,” Beth Coffey, Woodcraft’s vice president of sales and marketing, said in a statement. “It is an honor and a privilege to facilitate the work of the volunteers as a way for all of us to show our appreciation for our Armed Forces members.”
