Stanley Black & Decker announced the beginning of its Build Your America contest in May, where one charitable organization, non-profit organization or local government agency will win $10,000 to honor its community such as a neighborhood improvement project or renovations to a historical landmark, school, park and recreation center.
The contest was created to help people honor their hometown communities while showcasing the company’s increasing number of hand tools made in the U.S. using global materials. The contest will run through Dec. 31.
“This year alone Stanley Tools is introducing hundreds of new tools, some the world had never seen before,” says Jon Michael Adinolfi, the company’s construction and DIY president of hand tools and storage. “We are building millions of tools in the U.S. with global materials. America is the place where we founded Stanley in 1843 and ever since we have built our company on the American values of reliability, quality and innovation. We are continuing that tradition as we design, innovate and manufacture tools hardworking people all over the world count on day in, day out.”
To enter the contest, submit a brief essay on a proposed project and how you would like to honor your community with the $10,000 grand prize, such as by improving a park, building or other location. Stanley will donate tools to help support the build. Finalists and the grand-prize winner will be selected in early 2015.
