Seven companies win Challengers Award at IWF 2010

The winners of the Challengers Award competition for woodworking product innovation were announced Aug. 25 on the show floor at IWF.

The winners are:

? Benz Inc. for the Reciprocating Knife Cutter, designed to give a new level of versatility to a C-axis-equipped CNC machine. Using a standard spoil board to hold material, the unit can cut fabrics, leather, veneers, rubber, carpet, cork, vinyl and other similar products. Visit

? Binks/DeVilbiss MX series of piston pumps, which support one to two sprays guns in air-assist airless applications. The company says the pumps will produce fewer rejected parts, lower coating costs and reduce energy consumption. Visit

? Cabinotch for the Cabinotch 1 system incorporates nested manufacturing and CNC operations to produce an interlocking cabinet box. Visit

? ETP Transmission Inc. for the ETP Cubit adjustable system for profiling. The system is particularly relevant to cutting tongue and groove in the manufacture of flooring. The system is easy to operate with axially access and three steps. Precise adjustment is done by 0.01mm, according to the company. Visit

? King Slide Works Co. Ltd. for the 1A88 is a push-open, soft-close undermount drawer slide. Visit

? Leitz Tooling Systems Inc. for the Rip Tec Cutting system is patented for window production. The system decreases blowout on end-grain machining and creates a stronger joint, sealed against water and air penetration, according to the company. Visit

? Precision Drive Systems for the Dyna-Loc ATC Spindle is a compact automatic tool change spindle system that incorporates standard HSK-style tool holders. Visit
