The Wild Earth Woodworking School in Hudson, Wis., will be hosting its second “Build a Vet a Guitar” event from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 15-16.

The goal is to complete 20 acoustic guitar kits, which will be donated to Guitars for Vets. The organization’ mission is to provide an acoustic guitar and six lessons for vets with post traumatic stress disorder. When the six lessons are complete, the vet is given the guitar.

“The build event relies completely on volunteer labor, but you don’t have to be a luthier to come and help out,” says school director George Vondriska. “We’ll find a spot for helping hands. If you play an instrument, bring it. When there’s downtime in the building process, impromptu jams get started.

“Can’t attend, but want to help? G4V can always use donations of labor, cash, or guitars. Visit the website to find out if there’s a chapter in your area where you can lend a hand, where to mail a check, or how to donate a guitar. No money, no mission. And the G4V mission is very cool.”
