Reach for the stairs in Sante Fe

If you like to stare at stairs, add a visit to New Mexico’s capital to the bucket list. Santa Fe is home to the Loretto Chapel and its “Miraculous Staircase,” a sophisticated spiral staircase with no means of obvious support by an unknown builder.

Your best opportunity might be the Stairbuilders and Manufacturers Association’s annual conference, scheduled for Apr. 25-28, 2018, in Sante Fe. The conference will feature a case study of the Miraculous Staircase, presented during the Design and Engineering Symposium on Apr. 26, as well as networking and other educational opportunities.

“The SMA provides a structure in which members network and learn and in doing so they support and strengthen the entire industry. The SMA annual conference will be a celebration of 30 years of stair professionals advocating, learning and defining an industry dedicated to building safe, beautiful stairways,” says David Cooper, SMA’s executive director.

Other scheduled events include a keynote presentation by Chris Ramey, an expert on luxury marketing, an exhibit hall, code and standard development updates, annual committee meetings, and an awards banquet.
