Keystone Wood Specialties will offer cabinetry components made from thermally modified wood, an environmentally safe alternative to pressure-treated wood, according to the company.

Thermally modified wood can be used for outdoor cabinetry applications such as deck or patio kitchens. Products include cabinet doors, drawer fronts, dovetailed drawer boxes, face frames, decorative molding, wainscot, shelves and more.

Produced by a technology new to the American wood industry, thermally modified wood is 100 percent natural wood containing no foreign chemicals. It is water-repellant, dimensionally stable, lightweight and resistant to insects, mold or fungus. Its characteristic darker color penetrates through to the center of the wood, according to the company.

Currently, Keystone offers ash, poplar and red oak. Thermally modified wood components may be ordered FSC-certified.
