Select few are picked from a record number of entries for honor that will be handed out in August in Atlanta

Twenty finalists, out of a record 126 entries from 93 companies, have been selected for the Challengers Distinguished Achievement Award, which will be presented at the IWF 2008 in Atlanta.

"With a record number of entries, the 2008 competition was one of the most competitive ever," says Richard A. Campbell, chairman of the Challengers award committee.

The Challengers Award recognizes advancements in technology or significant contributions to environmental improvement and focuses on companies that have distinguished themselves by developing innovative technology in products, services or manufacturing techniques, according to the IWF.

The finalists are:

• Biesse Wood Div./Brenna Macchine Srl for the Through-Feed Machining Center.

• Carter Products Co. Inc. for the Sand Trac Totalizer SD-1000.

• DUX Area Inc. for the DUX Advanced Laminar Airflow Technology.

• DV-Systems/Delle Vedove USA Inc. for the UV-X.

• FS Tool Corp./FS Curing for Aerotech.

• Giben International for the SpA-Zero Active Drive Beam Saw.

• The Hain Co. for the Folding Digital Measuring System.

• NAP GLADU for the Next G Series Diamond & Carbide Inserts Cutting Tool.

• Onsrud Cutter for Tuff Core.

• ShopBot for the ShopBot Buddy with Power Stick.

• Super Thin Saws for UltraCem-coated blades.

• Techniks for ATEMAG Floating Aggregate with Chip Guide.

• TenonCam for the TenonCam-CNC System.

• Timesavers Inc. for the Timesavers Random Air Motion Blow-Off.

• Unimerco Inc. for Hydro Tool Holders with Chip Diverter.

• Vortex Tool Co. Inc. for the Venturi System.

• Weinig Group for the Variomat.

• Weinig Group/Raimann for SafetyPlus.

• WoodEye North America/Innovative Vision AB for Automatic NHLA Grading of Hardwoods.

Seven companies will be selected as winners at a ceremony Aug. 20. The IWF 2008 will be held on Aug. 20-23 at the Georgia World Congress Center.
