The San Diego Fine Woodworkers Association issued a call for entries for its 29th annual Design in Wood exhibition, scheduled for June 11-July 5, 2010, during the San Diego County Fair at the Del Mar Fairgrounds in Del Mar, Calif.

The 2010 exhibition will offer a theme-based award on "Taste and Fun" and the competition is open to all woodworkers. More than 350 entries are expected in 22 categories with awards totaling more than $21,000. A "Best in Show" award of $1,000 will be sponsored by American Woodworker magazine.

Entry categories include:

? Traditional and contemporary furniture and accessories

? Art furniture

? Made for children

? Model building (scale and not to scale)

? Musical instruments

? Clocks

? Veneering/marquetry

? Wood turning (face work and center work)

? Embellished/mixed media

? Laminated/segmented

? Wood carving (animals, birds, marine animals, open class)

? Scroll saw (intarsia and fretwork)

With a view toward expanding the breadth of the Design in Wood show, the organizers are looking for further entries in the wood carving category to include birds and animals, clocks, made-for-children and traditional furniture pieces.
