Accuride International and the Belt Sander Racing Association announced seven scheduled events for the 2012 belt-sander racing season.
The first race will be held March 30 at McKillican in Algona, Wash., followed by Richelieu’s event April 19 at its Calgary, Alberta. Then, beginning in June, E.B. Bradley Co. has a series of races planned in San Diego, Anaheim and Hayward, Calif., Portland, Ore., and Kent, Wash.
“These events were a big hit last year and we expect some of our hard core competitors to break out some pretty serious sanders they’ve souped-up over the winter,” Accuride West Coast regional manager Jamie Goodwin said in a statement.
Competitors vie for awards on a 75-foot wooden track complete with Christmas-tree starting signals. There are two classes, stock and modified, with a first-place award presented in each category. Other awards include best dressed for creative sander decoration and a special judge’s award.
