I have a somewhat ambivalent relationship with technology. I used to be an early adopter, spending large sums on the latest new thing as soon as it hit the market. Fun, but not really sensible.
For one thing, you never know if the new thing is going to last long enough to make the investment worthwhile. Or if it will hit to the extent where the price point drops dramatically soon after it's appearance.
Hard drives are a good example. The latest bigger, better and faster versions usually carry astronomical prices.
But then I discovered apps. Time tracking, note taking, reminders, and contact information were suddenly available any time or place from a smart phone.
