The old rule about measuring twice and cutting once is always worth repeating. I’ve broken the rule and paid the price.
The job involved 20’-long wall-to-wall unit that because of its design could not be built in modules. It was massively heavy and took a small army to get into place. The problem was that the unit was a half inch longer that the opening it was supposed to go into.
Now, this was a situation where I had actually measured twice. The job was too far from the shop to make running back and forth practical and I wanted to be sure.
What I had missed was the half-inch plywood shear panel the engineer made them apply to one end wall under the Sheetrock after my second measuring had been done. And the contractor never let me know about that. Not an easy fix considering the size of the unit and the fact that most of what was needed was a hundred miles away back at the shop.
Should have measured three times …
