With the bold statement that "we are going back after the professional woodworking market," Stanley Black & Decker introduced new chisels - a Sweetheart line of socket chisels and a Bailey five-piece chisel set - at a recent press event in New York City.

"Stanley enjoys a rich history as the pioneer of many cherished woodworking hand tools," product manager Chris Wooley said in a press release. "We are certain that the new Stanley chisels and chisel sets will exceed expectations today, just as it did a century ago. Their precision-machined geometry and top-quality materials are once again worthy of the famous Sweetheart and Bailey logos."
The Sweetheart socket chisels are modeled after Stanley's 750 design and will be manufactured in Sheffield, England. The blades will be high-carbon steel and machined flat. The side bevels of the tools will be extra narrow for working in tight corners. The chisels, designed for striking and paring, feature hornbeam handles.
The Sweetheart chisels will be available in 1/8", 1/4", 3/8", 1/2", 5/8", 3/4", 1" and 1-1/4" sizes. The first four sizes will retail for about $30, while the two largest chisels will sell for about $40. A set of four will sell for about $110 and an eight-piece set will cost about $200. Both sets will include a leather storage pouch.
The Bailey chisels, named after Leonard Bailey, one of the fathers of the modern hand plane, will also be manufactured in Sheffield from carbon-chrome steel. Aimed more at the contractor market, these tang chisels feature lacquered blades for improved edge retention and rust resistance, according to the company.
The Bailey chisels will be sold as a kit that includes 1/4", 1/2", 3/4", 1", and 1-1/4" chisels and a leather roll pouch. It will retail for about $80.
The new chisels are available in September, according to Stanley.
