Jet Tools, a brand of JPW Industries, introduced its new JOSS-S floor model oscillating spindle sander, model 723950, in May. Designed to take the hassle out of sanding for busy woodworkers, the machine features increased table tilting, optimized dust collection and integrated storage all in one robust machine, according to the company.

Assistant product manager Katie Davidson says that the JOSS-S is designed with proper dust collection in mind.

“There are flexible accordion-style baffles beneath the table to create a chamber for collecting dust at its source, and a 4” diameter dust port easily connects to any standard dust collection system,” Davidson says.

The machine features a large 24-1/2” x 24-1/2” cast-iron table with a working height of 39-3/16” from the floor. The table tilts 45 degrees forward and 15 degrees back and locks at any point in between to accommodate a full range of sanding operations. A 90-degree quick index makes returning the table to level an easy adjustment, while a spindle lock requires the use of a single wrench.

It also features an independently mounted 1-hp, 115/230-volt TEFC motor. “The motor directly engages a worm and gear drive that turns the spindle at [up to] 1,720 rpm and generates 75 oscillations per minute. The sander’s 1-1/2” oscillating action reduces heat build-up, protecting the workpiece and extending abrasive sleeve life,” Davidson adds.

An on/off paddle switch is conveniently located on the front of the cabinet and features a safety key. The integrated storage area in the cabinet provides designated slots for all spindles, drums and table inserts. There is also a magnetic strip to hold the included wrench for spindle changes. The door to the storage area is sealed to keep out dust and debris. The machine weighs 216 lbs.

The sander, with a five-year warranty and set of 10 spindles, sells for $1,499.
