Milwaukee had its annual new product event in May, unveiling tools for carpentry, plumbing, electrical and other trades. Woodworkers and installers may be most interested in the company’s redesigned drilling and fastening solutions based on an improved M18 Fuel platform.

Milwaukee has redesigned the motor, mechanical and electrical components of its M18 Fuel drill/driver, hammer drill and impact driver to give them more power and speed.

“All three tools now combine three exclusive Milwaukee innovations, the Power State brushless motor, Red Lithium battery pack, and Relink Plus intelligence hardware and software,” says senior product manager Eric Rusch.

“The new motor has 30 percent more copper and is about 25 percent shorter in length than our previous generation motor. It was built through a new manufacturing process that allows us to precisely place each strand of copper in the motor to maximize the space available. The additional copper allows us to deliver the increase in power and speed in high demand applications.”

Milwaukee also presented an 18-volt random orbit sander, model 2468-20.

“The M18 random orbit sander achieves corded power through the benefits of our M18 cordless system. This system is the ultimate synergy of Red Lithium battery technology for unmatched runtime, patented cordless technologies, more efficient motors, and advanced electronics,” says product manager Kathleen Keegan.

The 5” variable speed sander weighs a little over 4 lbs. and is fully compatible with Milwaukee’s entire M18 line, which so far consists of more than 150 power tools.
