Makita has added a 3-1/4" cordless planer to its LXT line of 18-volt, lithium-ion battery-powered tools.
“The [model] LXPK01 is engineered for door and window installers, finish carpenters, deck installers and remodelers,” says product manager Ethan Haughawout.
The planer operates at 14,000 rpm and can remove stock up to 5/64" in a single pass with a two-blade cutterhead featuring double-edge carbide blades, according to the company.
The planer features a click-depth adjustment knob, machined-aluminum base and the company’s Energy Star-qualified rapid optimum charger that will charge the battery in 30 minutes or less, according to Haughawout.
Comfort and ease-of-use features include a spring-loaded stand to elevate the base and protect the blades and workpiece, two rubber handles on the front and rear, and an electric brake. The planer weighs 7.4 lbs. and has an overall length of 13-1/8".
The planer is sold as a kit with two batteries, charger, blade set, blade gauge assembly, wrench and contractor bag for $399. The planer, by itself, sells for $169.
