General International’s new 3-hp cabinet saw, model 50-275R, will be featured in the company’s booth at IWF 2012 in Atlanta.
General marketing and communications manager Norman Frampton says it’s a follow-up to the 2-hp entry-level saw, model 50-200R, introduced about two years ago.
“We came to the conclusion that there was a market for the more advanced woodworker for a slightly beefed-up full 3-hp version as well,” says Frampton.
The saw has a very distinct look with a cast-iron base skirt, giving it a more stable footprint that also helps to reduce vibration. It has that same blade cover/splitter assembly as the 50-200R with a separate riving knife also included.
The saw comes with the company’s Excalibur T-fence system and cast-iron miter gauge. It has an arbor lock for one-tool blade changes and on-board storage hooks for the fence, miter gauge and blade wrench.
The 220-volt, 13-amp motor with sealed bearings provides a full 3-hp and carries a light-to-medium industrial duty rating, according to Frampton. A serpentine-style drive belt transfers power from the motor to the blade. A closed and ventilated cabinet features a dust shroud to draw dust away from the blade and a 4” dust port.
The cabinet saw sells for about $2,000 with 50” right rip capacity rails, a 36” table board and adjustable-height steel support legs.
