DeWalt is introducing a new “Perform and Protect” sander line with improved control features, more efficient dust containment and reduced vibration, according to product manager Cindy Drnec.

“These are replacing a few of the sanders we have out. We haven’t really done anything to those sanders in a long time so this gave us the opportunity to really look at the sanders and make a lot of great upgrades for the users,” Drnec says.

The first offering is the 5”, variable-speed and random-orbit sander, model DWE6423K. It weighs only 2.9 lbs. and the tool’s 3-amp motor delivers 8,000 to 12,000 oscillations per minute, according to DeWalt.

“With its low height, the user can get closer to the sanding surface making sanding projects easier. Other features make it user friendly,” Drnec says.

“One of the upgrades was a decrease in vibration. There’s a separate counterweight in the tool which give it a decreased vibration and, along with that, there is an enhanced rubber over-mold grip, which makes it a lot more comfortable when you’re using it for a long period of time.

“Dust collection has been improved with the addition of an integrated rubber dust skirt, which minimizes dust escaping around the pad and allows you to collect more dust while working. Additionally, the dust collection port has a one-handed locking dust bag that works with DeWalt’s Dust Extractors and Universal Connector System.”

Model DWE6423K retails for about $79.
