Baker Products featured the Wood Wizz planer and orbital sander at the 2022 IWF in Atlanta, a machine designed to quickly and efficiently surface slabs, burls, tabletops and more without any tear, ridging or burn marks, according to the company.

“This is a real good solution for doing slabs,” says Clay Hedrick, a sales consultant for Baker. “We’ve heard all kinds of stories of using floor sanders and hand planers and other things because the slabs are just too large for most conventional equipment. It has certainly improved things from what (customers) tell us. They’ve gone from doing one slab every three or four days, to three or four slabs a day, easily.”

The Wood Wizz is powered by a 3- or 5.5-hp variable-speed motor and runs on an X, Y, and Z axis.

Operation begins by planing both sides of a slab. “You basically level the slabs or plane them with the head, and without removing that head, put a sanding disk in the machine, sand them, and even buff them out,” says Hedrick.

There are three models, all with a 6’ wide processing area. Model 4-X can hold material up to 11’, 3” long; 5-X up to 14’, 7” long, and 6-X up to 17’, 10” long.

Pricing for the 4-X model starts at $21,400. For more, visit baker-online.com.
