Calculated Industries announced it is now the exclusive North American master distributor for SmartWedge plastic shims that can be used for installing doors and windows, framing, deck building and more.

Reliable and easy to use, these shims have been popular in European housing construction for more then 40 years. SmartWedge shims are made from durable polyethylene plastic, so they are immune to damp and, unlike wood shims, they won't swell, compress or decay. Plus, they will not split, even when fastened by nails or screws, according to the company.

SmartWedge Shims come in several styles, shapes and sizes for different applications.

SmartWedge Shims: The original SmartWedge is 8” long and 1-5/8” wide and consists of two attached shims, so they can be snapped apart and used as two quarter-inch shims. The teeth on their faces interlock to hold them securely at the thickness you set, preventing creepage.

Flat Shims: These non-tapered shims are flat and have no interlocking teeth.

Balance Shims: Also called Hanger Shims, these shims come in six thicknesses from 1/32 to 3/8”. Balance Shims can hang freely from a nail and will remain level, making them ideal for framing or installing window and doors.

Smart Blocks: These blocks are 2” wide and 3” long, and they come in four thicknesses from 1/16” to 3/4” to achieve a specific thickness.

Combi Max: A flexible system of different shapes and sizes that can be used for blocking up floors and decking.
