What are you going to do with yours?

So it would seem that somewhere around here there's supposed to be another tax rebate. In an effort to stimulate the economy, the government has announced that everyone will get a check to spend on something. I'm not sure exactly how this works or if it actually works at all because the last time there was a tax rebate I never saw any check. Maybe no one actually gets a check and we all just assume that we were the only one who did not get one and that everyone else did. So the effect is purely psychological.

Everyone thinks that everyone else has extra money to spend and somehow this is supposed to get things moving again. Anyway, here's a short list of shop upgrades I might use my rebate for:

  • Martin T74 sliding table saw
  • Weinig 4-sided molder
  • DMS 5-axis CNC router (of course, this would also have to include the computer and software needed to drive the machine, which might put the total a bit over what I could expect from my rebate)
  • 42' wooden-hulled center cockpit sailing yacht (technically not a woodworking machine, but would require the use of many tools to maintain)

So, now that I have my list, I just need to wait until my check arrives …
