My head is starting to hurt

I have always tried to maintain a positive outlook. Even when things get difficult, it’s not impossible to envision things improving. But these days, I’m finding that it is taking a lot more mental energy to combat the negative energy that seems to be pervading everything.

The economy seems strong, but the financial markets are a roller coaster, up one day and crashing the next. Everyone seems to be walking on eggshells in an effort to avoid offending anyone but at the same time our leadership seems bent on offending everyone. We see daily reports of mass shootings. Immigrants are living in fear of being invaded by ICE. No one seems to feel safe anywhere. Remaining positive in the face of such events is a challenge to say the least.

Business needs a stable environment to thrive. Sure, it’s not unheard of for someone to make a killing overnight by jumping on an opportunity that appears out of nowhere. But these are isolated events and more often than not are bubbles that pop rather quickly. For those of us in it for the long run, this stuff just destabilizes everything and makes it more difficult to move ahead in an orderly manner.

I don’t know what it’s going to take to restore some rationality but, for myself, I’m just trying to keep that positive frame around everything. It’s just not getting any easier.
