We spend a lot of time discussing the dangers inherent in our occupation.
We all realize the basic incompatibility of sharp steel and human flesh. When that steel is moving fast, the incompatibility increases exponentially.
We put a lot of energy into insuring that our work is done in a manner that minimizes the dangers. But we need to remember that woodworking, like many other occupations that involve direct contact with machinery, is never completely safe. No matter how aware we are of the dangers, there are always new ways of getting injured lurking out there, waiting to be discovered.
We don't want to be the ones who discover them! There's just no glory in it. It's like being the guy who discovered that certain mushrooms were poisonous.
