Lamello recently updated its P-System furniture manufacturing technology with the new Clamex P detachable connectors and the Zeta P2 biscuit joiner to help woodworkers minimize their production times.

The two-part Clamex P connector is joined with a metal, cam-action lever turned with a hex wrench. Various sizes are now available to meet different thicknesses of wood.

To use the system, a T-groove is first cut into the workpiece with a CNC machine set up with a disc cutter or with the Zeta P2 biscuit joiner. The fitting is then slid into this groove. Product manager Karl Frey says common product applications include RTA furniture, knock-down assemblies and cabinet face-frames and carcasses.

“The benefit here, unlike with regular hardware, is that everything can be shipped flat and assembled on sight with ease. Furniture can be disassembled and reassembled over and over hundreds of times. These connectors also are not visible in your work. You will only see a 6 mm hole, which serves to move the lever with a hexagonal key, and there are caps in various colors to cover them,” says Frey.

He adds that creative applications with miters from 30 to180 degrees are also possible because of the small installation depth of the Clamex P.

The Clamex P connectors cost $2 to $3 per pair.

Out of the box, the Zeta P2 can’t really be called a biscuit joiner, though it can be converted to one by changing the cutter. It comes with a T-shaped cutter to install the Clamex P connectors. After making a plunge cut to a preset depth, the Zeta kicks into oscillating mode to form a slot that will hold one half of the Clamex P connector. It’s powered by an 800-watt motor.

The Zeta P2 sells for $1,599 and comes with a carbide cutter and case.
