Accu-Router recently added the Series II, a refurbished version of the company’s original 1987 router, as part of its Green CNC program. The Series II routers are well-suited for small production shops, according to the company.
Under the Green CNC program, the company re-acquires used machines towards the end of their life-cycle, preserves the structural steel and refurbishes the electronics. The customer basically gets a new machine at a used price.
Product manager T.R. Herzog says the company has access to dozens of 1987 series machines, which are just a phone call away. “We don’t have a warehouse full of these that are available to rebuild and sell, but if a client is interested, there are at least 60 of these style machines out in the field, some of which are very near the end of their life cycle.”
By re-using the structural components, steel gantry, electrical enclosures and aluminum table and updating the technology, a Series II router should provide 10 to 15 years of service, according to Herzog.
“If you want a CNC machine with certain specifications and you don’t have a pre-owned platform you could build it on, an equivalent machine with new steel and enclosures will be about $50,000 more. The interior systems can also be upgraded along the way as technology advances and the customer needs more productivity,” says Herzog.
Not all machines are priced the same, since they are built to a customer’s specifications. A basic refurbished machine starts at about $60,000. One with new mechanicals and a control package brings the cost to around $130,000. New parts, such as a 15-hp collet spindle, come with the company’s one-year warranty.
The Series II routers can also be updated with faster positioning speeds and cutting rates, Accu-Router’s Roller Assist hold-down for single and stack machining and Mastercam’s 2-D CAM software.
