Senco unveils new line of finish nailers

22_senco_01Pneumatic tool manufacturer Senco recently introduced its new Fusion line of finish nailers. Available in both 15- and 18-gauge models, the nailers combine the qualities of air and cordless technologies to maximize job-site performance and portability without the hassle of a hose and compressor.

"The Fusion technology is a self-contained air cylinder, so it acts like a pneumatic tool, but is free of cords and cumbersome attachments on many cordless tools. It's a brand-new technology that we're quite excited about," says Senco's Biff Roberts.

The nailers do not use a fuel cell, eliminating the expense of buying replacements and of fuel odor emissions, which can be bothersome when working in a confined space.

Fusion nailers are powered by an 18-volt

lithium-ion phosphate battery that can reach an 80 percent charge in approximately 15 minutes. The tools' patented Reflex Shot design provides an instant trigger response and fires up to 500 nails between charges, according to the company.

"A gear box and lifter force the piston and driver blade against self-contained air within the cylinder, compressing it so that when the trigger is pulled, it drives nails powerfully and consistently, even into hardwoods," says Roberts.

The 15-gauge, model FN65DA, shoots 1-1/4" to 2-1/2" galvanized and stainless angled strip finish nails.

The 18-gauge, model FN55AX, uses 5/8" to 2-1/8" galvanized slight head and medium head straight strip brads.

Both nailers offer the option of two firing modes. "One of the biggest advantages is the ability to operate the tool on a bump-fire or a sequential mode. The bump-fire allows you to pull the trigger and can bounce-fire the tool along a surface without having to fire the tool for individual fasteners," says Roberts.

The nailers also feature a tool-free adjustable depth-of-drive and nose-mounted work light. Nails are loaded with a removable magazine.

The 15-gauge model is currently available for $440. The 18-gauge model will be available in the fall and sell for $399.
