If you are willing to pay the price, the sound can be unbelievably crisp. But if you take that premise down to the tiny size of headphones, for an iPod as an example, would the result be the same?

64_spirit_01The San Fernando Valley Woodworkers Club brings smiles to the faces of needy children through its annual Holiday Toy Production charitable program. The program is the main focus of the club's year and was started by woodworker Bob Rennie in 1980. It is now jointly run by him and Arron Latt.

54_oow_2AltCraft is a special section at the American Craft Council shows where selected artists are invited to display work that illustrates innovative techniques and materials of new handmade crafts. The AltCraft section at the ACC Baltimore show in late February showcased about 20 artists.



Grant makes big community impact

54_oow_1The Florence Elks Lodge No. 1020 in Florence, S.C., was recently awarded a $10,000 Impact Grant by the Elks National Foundation. The money will be used to support an afterschool woodworking program called "Building a Better Future."

064_oow_1The gears are always turning in Gary Johnson's shop. A woodworker from Coarsegold, Calif., Johnson specializes in creating handmade custom wood clocks. Born and raised in the Mojave Desert, Johnson developed a fascination at an early age with figuring out how things worked. He started Custom Wood Clocks about 10 years ago as a retiree and continues to work in his home-based shop every day.
