Mastercam competition

56_guitar_01CNC Software, manufacturer of Mastercam CAD/CAM software, is accepting entries for its Innovator of the Future competition, in which students design and machine a working guitar capo - a device fastened over the fingerboard to shorten the strings uniformly to allow the guitar to be played in a different key.

The competition will be judged by Mark Summers, co-founder and president of CNC Software. Winners will be selected based on several criteria including accuracy, creativity and cleanliness of the part.

The winning student will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship to the school of his or her choice, a tour of CNC's headquarters in Tolland, Conn., and other prizes.

The entry requirements include:

  • A part that is programmed with a licensed copy of Mastercam software.
  • A part that adheres to the stated specifications.
  • An essay explaining the inspiration for the part's design, materials used, etc.
