The Home Depot announced in late January that it will close its Expo Design Center business and is also taking steps to streamline its support functions. These decisions will impact 7,000 workers, or approximately 2 percent of the company’s total work force, according to The Home Depot.

Edgar is retired from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte as an associate professor of art. The weak economy and uncertainty in housing markets remain key hurdles for remodeling activity, according to Harvard’s Joint Center for Housing Studies. The Leading Indicator of Remodeling Activity (LIRA) points to homeowner improvement spending declining at an annual rate of 12 percent by the second quarter of 2009.
