Tuesday, 30 December 2008 21:37The 11th annual Working Wood in America Conference at Colonial Williamsburg in Williamsburg, Va., will focus on bedroom furniture during the 2009 sessions set for Jan. 7-10 and Jan. 11-14. As opposed to previous conferences when the theme has been a single piece of furniture such as a chair or table, the 2009 theme opens up a variety of possibilities. Members of the Anthony Hay Cabinet Shop and several textile specialists at Colonial Williamsburg will be joined by educator, craftsman and inlay specialist Steve Latta to conduct conference demonstrations.

Each of the season’s 26 episodes will feature a popular project from a past season, with new introductions from Abram. The projects have been carefully selected for craftsmen of all skill levels, including a quarter-sawn oak roll top desk and portable miter saw station.

Thursday, 04 December 2008 15:06The third annual Fine Furnishings & Fine Craft Show in Milwaukee was held Sept. 27-28 at the Midwest Airlines Center in Milwaukee. Similar to its sister show in Providence, R.I., and other furniture shows that have been held during healthy and unhealthy economic times, some exhibitors made great sales, others had no sales, and many obtained good contacts that often lead to down-the-line sales.
