Fair turnout for TSI Greensboro show

Attendance was lower than expected at the 22nd annual TSI Carolinas Industrial Woodworking Expo, but not bad considering the economy, according to the show’s producers. Held Feb. 19-20 at the Greensboro (N.C.) Coliseum Complex, the show featured 107 contracted exhibiting companies, with over 500 exhibiting personnel, offering new technology, products and services, and educational seminars.



Philadelphia Invitational set for March

The third annual Philadelphia Invitational Furniture Show is scheduled for March 27-29 at the Philadelphia Cruise Ship Terminal. The show will feature a limited group of furniture and furnishings artisans selected by jury to show their work and meet with present and prospective clients. Director Josh Markel expects a turnout of about 65 exhibitors and approximately 2,500 attendees, and encourages artisans to exhibit in the economic downturn.



NHLA expands overseas with China office

The National Hardwood Lumber Association opened its first overseas office in Shanghai, China, in January. Bob Sabistina, former director of the NHLA Inspector Training School and also former chief inspector of the NHLA, will oversee the Shanghai office. His work will be divided into three main areas:

The famous Monty Python lyric, “I’m a lumberjack and I’m OK,” isn’t close to being accurate, according to a study of 200 jobs conducted by JobsRated.com, a career advice and job-hunting Web site. In fact, the study, which was released in January, rates lumberjack as the worst job in the country.



Home Depot will focus on core business

The Home Depot announced in late January that it will close its Expo Design Center business and is also taking steps to streamline its support functions. These decisions will impact 7,000 workers, or approximately 2 percent of the company’s total work force, according to The Home Depot.
