Furniture Society pairs with AWFS in Vegas

11_furnituresociety_01The Furniture Society will hold its 15th annual conference July 21-23 in conjunction with the AWFS fair at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas. It's a first for the studio furniture makers' group, which usually conducts a stand-alone conference at college settings across the country.

Buyer interest up at Philadelphia show

12_phillyshow_01Sales and buyer interest were up at this year's Philadelphia Invitational Furniture Show, held March 26-27 at the Philadelphia Cruise Terminal, according to exhibitors interviewed by Woodshop News. Show director Josh Markel says the turnout was almost identical to last year, with close to 70 exhibitors and about 2,000 attendees.

AWFS fair bets on a better turnout

Last month, Marguerite Hoffman, the AWFS vice president of tradeshows, gave an overview of the show's planning progress.

Hawaiian furniture store eyes expansion

10_hawaiian_01Michael Tam, CEO for Martin & MacArthur, a home furniture and accessory store chain based in Honolulu, recently opened his seventh location with a store in Waikiki, Hawaii. Contrary to what the majority of custom furniture makers might feel about taking such a bold initiative in light of the economic downturn, Tam believes the time is right for expansion.
