This course introduces novice turners to the magic of the lathe. Nick teaches both spindle turning and faceplate work, emphasizing safety, stock preparation, tool selection, sharpening, and efficient turning techniques. On the first day, students learn to spindle turn with roughing gouges, spindle gouges, skews, and parting tools. Participants build their skills daily through a series of hands-on projects such as tops, Christmas tree ornaments, bowls, and plates, working with both kiln-dried and green woods.
