Show is a ‘Paradise City’ for furniture

The Paradise City Arts Festival will hold its annual spring show Memorial Day weekend, May 23-25, at the Three County Fairgrounds in Northampton, Mass. More than 250 craftsmen and artists, including custom furniture makers, will display their work at the juried show. The fairs of fine and functional art are held each spring in Philadelphia, Northampton and Marlborough, Mass., and each fall in Northampton and Marlborough.

European furniture on display in Boston

A huge exhibition, “Splendor and Elegance: European Decorative Arts and Drawings from the Horace Wood Brock Collection” is ongoing through May 17 at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. Featuring aristocratic European furniture and decorative arts, drawings and paintings from the mid-16th century to the early 19th century, the exhibition is organized chronologically, stylistically and thematically. More than 160 works assembled in the last 30 years by New York collector Dr. Horace Wood Brock include examples of English, French, German, and Flemish furniture, ceramics, gilt bronzes, clocks, andirons and hardstone vases.

Exhibit offers a rare glimpse of Rohlfs

Gustav Stickley, Greene & Greene and Frank Lloyd Wright are iconic names associated with the Arts and Crafts movement, furniture design and architecture that took place at the beginning of the 20th century. But furniture designer and maker Charles Rohlfs was highly influential at the turn of the century, even if the notoriety he received for his work was short-lived and he discontinued his innovative career after only 10 years.
